About The Position
Serves as an Operations Supervisor in a terminal or en route facility, planning and directing operations within delegated areas of responsibility. Provides first-line supervision to a team of Developmental and Certified Professional Controllers. The supervisor oversees Air Traffic Control Specialists carrying out air traffic control assignments within a geographic area. The role includes assigning and prioritizing work, scheduling staff, approving leave, advising and instructing employees, evaluating performance, and recommending performance ratings. The supervisor also addresses employee complaints, refers group grievances and unresolved complaints to higher-level management, and identifies and arranges training needs. The position seeks ways to improve productivity and work quality, adjusts staffing and procedures to accommodate higher-level resource decisions, recommends goals and objectives, and tracks results. It communicates and reinforces diversity and EEO policies and programs, supports the labor-management partnership process, and fosters a fair and equitable workplace. The Operations Supervisor reports to the Operations Manager. Performance is evaluated based on the effectiveness with which assigned program objectives are achieved.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Selective Service registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Must submit an SF-50.
- Must meet one of the following specialized experience requirements: held an FAA 2152 FV-J/FG-14 or above regional or headquarters position for at least 1 year (52 weeks); been facility rated or area certified for at least 1 year (52 weeks) in an ATS facility; or held an MSS position for at least 1 year (52 weeks) in an ATS facility.
- Qualifications must be met by the announcement closing date.
- Designated or random drug testing is required.
- A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required.
- A background investigation may be required.
- The selectee may be required to file a financial disclosure statement within 30 days of entry on duty.
- The selected applicant is subject to pre-employment or pre-appointment drug screening; employees in testing-designated positions are subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing.
- Applicants should provide detailed work-history examples supporting their qualifications and job-questionnaire/MSF answers.
Responsibilities
- Supervise Air Traffic Control Specialists responsible for air traffic control assignments within a geographic area.
- Plan and assign subordinate employees’ work, set priorities, and create schedules.
- Approve leave and provide employees with advice, counsel, and instruction on work and administrative matters.
- Evaluate employee performance and recommend performance ratings.
- Hear and resolve employee complaints, referring group grievances and serious unresolved complaints to a higher-level manager.
- Identify and arrange developmental and other training for employees.
- Improve the productivity and quality of the work directed.
- Adjust staffing levels and work procedures to accommodate resource decisions made at higher levels.
- Recommend area goals and objectives and track accomplishments.
- Communicate and reinforce diversity and EEO policies and programs, including in selections, training, and transfers.
- Support and participate in the labor-management partnership process and foster a fair and equitable work environment.
