About The Position

The supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of Emergency Dispatchers, Call Takers, and answering calls for service over 911 and non-emergency telephone lines. They ensure that officer safety is maintained while providing both emergency and non-emergency assistance to citizens and office personnel 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Consequences for error may result in monetary liabilities to MCSO and the County regarding lawsuits for injury; emergency situations not responded to in a timely manner; and ultimately loss of life. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Three (3) years of experience as an Emergency Dispatcher or Emergency Operator
  • FEMA NIMS – IS100 AND 700
  • OSHA training
  • Payroll training
  • PREA training
  • A valid Arizona driver’s license

Nice To Haves

  • Four (4) years of experience in radio and telephone dispatching.
  • Two (2) years of which were as an Emergency Dispatcher in the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and advise subordinates; prepare employee performance evaluations; counsel employees; mentor and apply progressive disciplinary measures to correct and/or improve overall work performance.
  • Prepare schedules for staffing in a 24/7 facility.
  • Approve leave time; assist staff with the payroll system.
  • Respond to questions regarding procedures and policies.
  • Receive and investigate complaints regarding employees.
  • Contact County Attorney staff and judges after hours for all Maricopa County agencies.
  • Compile and prepare various division reports for the Commander and Command Staff.
  • Supervise and participate in answering 911, Crime Stop, and switchboard calls; dispatch calls; answer various hot lines; and operate a language line.
  • Log all calls, data, and activity into various computer programs; maintain logs consistently.
  • Contact and communicate with emergency response staff, outside agencies, and vehicles.
  • Confirm warrants, missing people, stolen articles, stolen weapons, and stolen vehicles.
  • Monitor deputies and run information for deputies; check/verify license plates and other information; advise district sergeants of traffic or emergency situations; use Alpha page system.
  • Verify jurisdictions and codes; handle jurisdictional disputes.
  • Respond to correspondence from within the office.
  • Be present at work site to perform assigned duties at the times and dates scheduled and/or assigned by the supervisor
