The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, experience in clinical research and oncology nursing, and relevant certifications like OCN or CCRP. Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, project management, or supervisory experience in a research setting is highly valued.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Four years Registered nursing experience.
  • One year of research nursing experience.
  • One year of lead/mentor, project management or supervisory experience.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure.
  • Texas Professional Nursing license (RN).
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in clinical research and oncology nursing.
  • OCN (Oncology Nurse Certification).
  • CCRP (Certified Clinical Research Professional) or a comparable credential.
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification as required by patient care area.
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification as required by patient care area.
  • Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the effective operation of multiple department protocols as designated by the Department Chair in collaboration with principal investigators or study sponsors.
  • Provide overall coordination and facilitation of research activities and protocol patient care.
  • Oversee enrollment and patient care activities for assigned protocols.
  • Collect and input protocol data into appropriate research sources and systems.
  • Participate in and support monitoring visits related to assigned protocols.
  • Maintain a reduced patient and protocol workload while fulfilling supervisory responsibilities.
  • Mentor and educate newly hired research nurses.
  • Partner with the Research Nurse Manager to develop training plans for new research nurses.
  • Provide orientation to departmental and clinic operations.
  • Educate staff on research nursing skills and protocol management requirements.
  • Oversee initial protocol assignments for newly hired research nurses.
  • Serve as a resource for less experienced research nurses and assist with complex research-related questions and situations.
  • Serve as a resource for all research nurses during the Research Nurse Manager’s absence.
  • Make personnel-related decisions in the absence of the Research Nurse Manager.
  • Manage and evaluate staff productivity and performance.
  • Assess and address staff training and development needs.
  • Provide back-up coverage for research nurses during absences.
  • Complete annual performance evaluations.
  • Conduct coaching and counseling sessions as appropriate.
  • Prepare written performance-related documentation as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Research Nurse Manager to conduct quality assurance reviews of selected cases.
  • Perform quality reviews during periods of coverage for assigned research nurses when appropriate.
  • Support compliance with research protocols, institutional policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate training activities related to research protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Plan and develop educational programs for professional and ancillary staff.
  • Promote consistent protocol implementation and research best practices across the department.
