About The Position

US Foods, one of the largest food distributors, is seeking a Yard Jockey. This role involves communicating with dispatch, moving trailers between buildings, loading, unloading, or merging loads, staging shuttle trailers nightly, setting up trailers for backhauls, placing backhauls in correct doors, ensuring equipment is ready for deliveries, and working with mechanics. Requirements

  • Ability to lift/carry/push/pull 20 to 80+ lbs. of product repetitively during each shift required
  • Comfortable driving and working in inclement weather conditions
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have valid driver's license issued by state of residence
  • Must be able to pass DOT physical.
  • Must be able to read and communicate in the English language - able to hold a conversation, to understand highway traffic signs and signals, to respond to official inquiries, and to enter information on reports and records.
  • Registering to the FMCSA Clearinghouse is a requirement by the Department of Transportation.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of six months Non-CDL commercial driving experience preferred
  • Ability to operate manual transmission preferred; may be required in specific locations

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with Dispatcher/Router for truck/trailer and door assignments
  • Keep assigned equipment coupled
  • Move trailers between buildings as directed by Router or Warehouse Supervisor
  • Load, unload or merge loads between environments
  • Stage shuttle trailers nightly for shuttle drivers
  • Set up trailers for backhaul with tractor and empty pallets
  • Place backhauls in correct door to be unloaded by warehouse
  • Make sure all equipment is paired and ready for next day's deliveries.
  • Work with mechanics nightly
  • Must attend all required company meetings.
  • All other duties as assigned.
