About The Position

Requirements

• Three years of general experience providing knowledge of general maintenance and custodial concepts and practices, including custodial duties such as floor care, vacuuming, rug shampooing, cleaning air vents, disinfecting, washing walls and glass, and cleaning parking lots and sidewalks.
• Alternatively, one year of academic study above high school may substitute for nine months of experience, up to a maximum of a four-year bachelor's degree in place of three years of general experience.
• One year of responsible specialized experience demonstrating the ability to ensure custodial work is performed efficiently, maintain adequate supplies and equipment, conduct equipment inspections, follow preventive maintenance programs, ensure repairs and adjustments are made, and recommend timely equipment replacement.

Responsibilities

• Establish custodial crew schedules and work priorities, and prepare daily worksheets documenting assignments, hours, materials, overtime justifications, and cost-allocation records.
• Manage and inspect custodial work in progress for compliance with procedures, methods, deadlines, budgets, quality, and thoroughness; advise supervisors about progress, anticipated delays, cost overruns, and issues requiring corrective action.
• Maintain adequate custodial supplies and equipment and initiate procurement in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
• Inspect equipment periodically, follow preventive maintenance requirements, ensure repairs and adjustments are made, and recommend timely equipment replacement.
• Supervise crew leaders and janitors performing cleaning duties at Navy Exchange stores, warehouses, offices, and other facilities at various bases, including floor care, vacuuming, garbage removal, dusting, rug shampooing, cleaning vents, disinfecting restrooms, washing surfaces, and cleaning exterior areas.
• Provide adequate staffing, maintain an ongoing training program, schedule work, assign areas of responsibility, approve leave, and evaluate subordinate performance.
• Consult and coordinate with the personnel office and interested managers on hiring, transfers, promotions, discipline, grievances, and terminations.
• Ensure tools and equipment are used and maintained properly and that subordinates follow OSHA safety and fire regulations and guidelines.
• Carry out EEO policies and procedures and communicate support for these policies to subordinates.
