About The Position

ASM is seeking a motivated electrical engineering intern to gain hands-on experience supporting the design, integration, testing, and continuous improvement of electrical hardware used in advanced semiconductor equipment. The intern will work with experienced engineers across electrical, mechanical, process, controls, software, manufacturing, and service disciplines. Work may involve power distribution, controls, sensors, interlocks, safety circuits, cable assemblies, and system-level interfaces. The intern will contribute to a defined technical project with clear objectives and deliverables, receiving mentorship, technical guidance, and feedback. The internship combines project ownership and practical engineering experience with exposure to how semiconductor equipment is designed, built, tested, and qualified. Interns are expected to follow applicable engineering, laboratory, equipment, information security, confidentiality, and export-control requirements.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Foundational understanding of electrical engineering concepts gained through coursework, research, lab work, student projects, or previous internships.
  • Familiarity with electrical circuits, power systems, sensors, signal interfaces, or related electrical hardware concepts.
  • Experience reading or creating electrical schematics through coursework, projects, research, or other technical experience.
  • Hands-on interest in building, testing, troubleshooting, and understanding complex electromechanical systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate technical ideas clearly.
  • Curiosity, initiative, and willingness to ask questions and learn from experienced engineers.
  • Interest in semiconductor technology, advanced manufacturing, automation, or complex engineering systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with electrical CAD or schematic capture tools.
  • Coursework or project experience involving electrical circuit design, controls, power distribution, sensors, actuators, or embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical CAD tools such as AutoCAD Electrical or similar schematic-design tools.
  • Experience with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, or other electrical test equipment.
  • Exposure to PCB interfaces, embedded controls, PLC-based systems, cable or harness design, or electromechanical systems.
  • Previous engineering internship, research, lab, robotics, Formula SAE, IEEE, maker, or other hands-on technical project experience.
  • Exposure to electrical safety concepts or engineering standards.
  • Interest in semiconductor equipment and the technologies used to manufacture advanced semiconductor devices.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to a defined electrical engineering internship project with clear technical objectives and deliverables.
  • Support the design, development, integration, and testing of electrical hardware for semiconductor process-module subsystems.
  • Assist with translating system and performance requirements into electrical hardware solutions.
  • Support electrical component selection and evaluation based on performance, reliability, safety, environmental, and system requirements.
  • Assist with prototype builds, system integration, design verification, and hardware testing.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of electrical hardware issues with guidance from experienced engineers.
  • Help create and maintain engineering documentation, including schematics, bills of materials, test plans, technical documentation, and engineering change information.
  • Participate in design reviews and technical discussions.
  • Document project progress, test results, technical findings, and recommendations.
  • Present the internship project, accomplishments, and key learnings at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Collaborate with engineers across electrical, mechanical, process, controls, software, manufacturing, and service disciplines.
  • Follow applicable engineering, laboratory, equipment, information security, confidentiality, and export-control requirements.

Benefits

  • Mentorship and technical guidance from experienced engineers.
  • Hands-on exposure to electrical hardware used in advanced semiconductor equipment.
  • Professional development and experience with electrical design, testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and system integration.
  • Opportunity to take ownership of a meaningful electrical engineering project with defined goals and deliverables.
