About The Position

BluePearl Pet Hospital is hiring a Locum Veterinary Receptionist. This role is crucial to the success of our hospital, as you will be the first point of contact for clients. You will ensure each client receives the care and attention they need, functioning calmly and compassionately in potentially emotional and difficult situations. Your responsibilities include greeting clients warmly, assessing their needs and their pet's condition, responding to calls and visitors, confirming appointments, and providing emotional support and resources to grieving clients. You will also serve as a liaison between clients and service agencies during the handling of pet remains.

Requirements

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to offer guidance, comfort, and support.
  • Ability to function calmly and compassionately in emotional and difficult situations.
  • Ability to speak clearly, slowly, and calmly in person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to assess client and pet needs immediately upon arrival.
  • Ability to determine emergency status (stat vs. standard).

  • Experience working with veterinary medicine professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and make friendly eye contact with every client, offering warm and professional acknowledgement.
  • Maintain a friendly smile, strong eye contact, and an approachable demeanor.
  • Act as a compassionate listener.
  • Speak clearly, slowly, and calmly in person and on the telephone.
  • Assess immediately upon arrival each client’s rare need, as well as the pet’s general condition.
  • Determine whether an emergency arrival is a “stat” versus “standard” emergency.
  • Respond to non-patient calls or visitors and connect them to the appropriate team member.
  • Confirm all appointments in advance, ensuring clients receive accurate information about preparing their pet for the appointment.
  • Offer emotional support and resource materials to grieving clients in a compassionate and discreet manner.
  • Serve as a liaison between clients and service agencies during handling of pet remains by ensuring a complete, accurate, and compassionate process.
