About The Position

Under general supervision, this role coordinates the daily support operations of a single clinical area or group. Primarily acting as a Medical Assistant, the Team Lead performs all associated duties and serves as a resource for other support staff. This position may fill in for staff as needed to ensure department coverage and takes a lead role in maintaining high-quality department workflow. The role is part of Atrius Health, a healthcare leader and multi-specialty group practice within the Optum family, focused on transforming care and improving lives through value-based, connected care for adult and pediatric patients across 28 practice locations in eastern Massachusetts.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g. GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution or governmental unit
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in a healthcare setting facility
  • In depth knowledge of internal medicine
  • Ability to use all electronic tools and applications relevant to the performance of the duties of the position, including but not limited to phone, keyboard, computer and computer applications

Responsibilities

  • Exhibits high level of technical skill and functions as resource for other clinical support members
  • Performs mainly as a Medical Assistant with additional leadership responsibilities, including assisting clinicians with routine clinical procedures and tests, advising patients on preparation and testing required for exams, and performing vital signs
  • Evaluates daily schedules and ensures appropriate coverage in the event of an unplanned absence, potentially supporting other departments when filling in as needed
  • Implements operational procedures in accordance with established guidelines, with the ability to make minor modifications to standard procedures
  • Directs support staff to ensure departmental effectiveness and efficiency, guiding staff understanding of current workflow and suggesting changes when needed
  • Provides input into performance reviews
  • May act as a point of contact for patient inquiries, problems, and complaints, referring complex issues to appropriate resources
  • Oversees routine data and information flow for the unit and notifies supervisor of any deviations
  • May assist in the orientation of new providers, including telephone use, appointments, and the medical records system
  • May collect data for management decision-making and complete standard reports for unit management
  • Monitors assigned areas and exam rooms, informing the supervisor if they do not conform to health standards
  • May coordinate with the supervisor to purchase supplies and equipment and maintain adequate inventory, working with Building Services and Purchasing
  • May act as supervisor in the absence of the actual supervisor
  • Orients and trains staff
  • Performs other duties as assigned
