About The Position
The Lead Medical Assistant functions as a clinical team lead for Medical Assistants in the office and supports physicians and clinical staff in delivering healthcare. The role performs a variety of medically related tasks and requires the ability, skill, and knowledge to work in more than one specialty area. The Lead Medical Assistant orients and clinically trains Medical Assistants using approved standard work, reviews staff clinical and administrative skills, assesses workflow, and monitors staff and scheduling coverage. The position also supports patient care and office operations, including preparing patients and rooms, assisting providers during examinations or procedures within scope of practice, monitoring inventory and equipment, supporting quality assurance, and directing patient inquiries or complaints to appropriate personnel.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED, minimum.
- Associate degree or college diploma in Medical Assisting from an accredited educational program and/or certification from a Board-approved Medical Assistant organization, minimum.
- At least 5 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinical or medical office setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire; must be the AHA Healthcare Provider type.
Nice To Haves
- Graduate of an accredited X-Ray program.
- At least 6 years of experience working as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinical or medical office setting.
- Certified Registered Medical Assistant certification upon hire from a Board-approved Medical Assistant organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead huddles to monitor, assess, and evaluate department workflow.
- Provide orientation and training for Medical Assistants and administrative staff.
- Assist the Supervisor with preparation and documentation related to corrective actions and make recommendations.
- Assist in monitoring policies and department-specific data to safeguard organizational resources.
- Evaluate staff administrative and clinical skills based on scope of practice.
- Manage patient care flow and assist with monitoring CS-Link message pools.
- Assist with administrative and clinical support activities, including facilities management, patient billing, utilization management, quality management, risk management, human resources, and payroll.
- Prepare patients for providers by reviewing current medications and recording them in the medical record.
- Take appropriate vital signs and document them in the medical record.
- Set up examination and procedure rooms based on patient visit needs.
- Monitor inventory in clinical areas and evaluate, clean, and reprocess equipment and supplies.
- Assist providers during examinations or procedures within scope of practice, as directed by the provider.
- Assist with suite Quality Assurance measures, including recording Quality Control testing on designated equipment.
- Assist with patient inquiries or complaints and direct them to appropriate medical staff, administrative staff, insurance plans, or other departments to ensure satisfactory resolution.
- Serve as a chaperone when needed after completing required Chaperone Training.
