About The Position

This role is responsible for recruiting Precinct Election Officials (PEO) and staffing all Polling Locations for all Elections. The position also involves assisting in the recruitment and training of other election day workers, providing regular reports on PEO vacancies, conducting training classes, developing training curriculum, and administering public outreach programs. The role requires building strategic alliances with lay organizations, preparing and processing PEO payroll, and maintaining confidentiality and business integrity. All other duties as assigned by the Supervisor/Director/Deputy Director, the Board of Elections, and/or as prescribed by law will also be performed.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an associate’s degree preferred, and/or 2 years of Vocational Training, and/or equivalent work experience in the areas of employee training and/or employee recruitment
  • PC literacy, with a command of MS Office applications
  • Must demonstrate the ability to create spreadsheets and databases using MS Excel and Access
  • Must demonstrate the ability to efficiently and accurately enter data
  • Must demonstrate the ability to type 40 wpm
  • Must maintain an ongoing understanding of changes in Federal and State Statutory Requirements affecting the Election process
  • Demonstrates a professional attitude and appearance
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills which include effective verbal and written communications
  • Demonstrates adaptability, flexibility, and dependability
  • Demonstrates an ability to excel in task management and planning
  • Self-motivated and able to work well under pressure
  • Must demonstrate superior customer service phone skills
  • Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and be insurable under the Lucas County Commissioners’ Risk Management

Responsibilities

  • Recruiting Precinct Election Officials (PEO) and staffing all Polling Locations for all Elections
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of other election day workers (rovers, substation workers, and riders)
  • Provides regular and timely printed reports to the Supervisor regarding PEO vacancies
  • Conducts training classes, assists in developing training curriculum, and training schedule
  • Administers public outreach programs
  • Builds strategic alliances with lay organizations
  • Prepares and processes PEO payroll for all Elections
  • Must maintain confidentiality and business integrity
  • Performs all other duties as assigned, by the Supervisor/Director/Deputy Director, the Board of Elections, and/or as prescribed by law
  • Demonstrates superior oral and written communication skills to assist in the preparation of written PEO training materials and classroom instruction
  • Demonstrates successful strategies for PEO recruitment/retention
  • Ability to prepare and carry out project planning and implementation
  • Applies excellent interpersonal skills, which include effective verbal and written communication
  • Manages workflow and meets all deadlines and priorities set by the Supervisor, Director and Deputy Director, and Board
  • Meet requirements and deadlines set by the Secretary of State
  • Demonstrates a continuing willingness to work extended hours to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates the ability to assist in data entry, ballot inspections, and grip packing/staging/dissemination
