Bilingual Nutrition Educator

About The Position

The Bilingual Nutrition Educator is a remote/hybrid position that will play a vital role in supporting the health and nutrition goals of low-income families and individuals in Lane County. By delivering nutrition education to individuals and groups in Spanish or English, the Bilingual Nutrition Educator will help participants learn to prepare nutritious meals, maximize food resources, and access local food assistance programs. The ideal candidate will be fluent in Spanish and English and have a passion for nutrition education, experience engaging community members one on one and in groups, and the flexibility to tailor educational content to individual needs. This role may work remotely from a private space, with periodic in-person activities at FFLC offices and community sites in and around Eugene, Oregon. Some local travel in and around Eugene, OR and Lane County using a personal vehicle may be required. This position is funded through September 2027. Continuation will depend on community demand and funding availability. A work-issued laptop computer will be provided. Community Health Worker certification (or the willingness to obtain it) is preferred. FFLC will cover the cost of the CHW training and certification if needed. We encourage applicants who have a passion for nutrition and are fluent in Spanish to apply, regardless of CHW certification.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Safe driving record, valid Oregon driver’s license, current vehicle insurance and ability to use personal vehicle for FFLC business (mileage is reimbursed).
  • Possess a current Food Handler’s Card or willingness to obtain one in the first 2 weeks.
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 35 lbs. for outreach supplies and event equipment.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends.
  • All offers for employment are contingent upon a satisfactory background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Community Health Worker certification (or the willingness to obtain it).
  • Experience delivering nutrition education curriculum, individualized consultations, and/or healthy recipe demonstrations to low- or no-income individuals is a plus.
  • Relevant training and experience in nutrition education and trauma-informed care (preferred).
  • Familiarity with Eugene and Lane County community resources (housing, transportation, etc.) and FFLC structure, partners, and programs is a plus.
  • Familiarity with UniteUs or other case management systems and health-related social needs (HRSN) services is a plus.
  • Ability to meet in person in Eugene, OR and travel to other areas of Lane County as needed (preferred).
  • Community Health Worker certified with Oregon Health Authority (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver nutrition education curricula to individuals, families, and groups, adapting content to meet the specific cultural and dietary needs of participants.
  • Gather ingredients, prepare budget-friendly recipes, and lead cooking demonstrations virtually or in-person.
  • Complete required nutrition educator and Health-Related Social Needs (HRSN) trainings to remain current on best practices and service delivery protocols.
  • Communicate with program participants to coordinate and schedule individualized nutrition education opportunities.
  • Track spending and adhere to a budget for food purchases and mileage.
  • Meaningfully engage with community members at local events, presentations, and tabling opportunities to provide resources and represent FFLC.
  • Build and grow relationships with FFLC staff, partners, and community leaders to support programming.
  • Support program evaluation by collecting and documenting participant feedback.
  • Refer community members needing food assistance to appropriate social services offered by FFLC and other partner organizations.
  • Utilize the UniteUs (Connect Oregon) platform to respond to requests, complete screenings, and execute referrals to internal and external partners in a timely manner.
  • Accurately document and submit service and referral data to ensure appropriate billing, reimbursement, and program tracking.
  • Manage sensitive client data and personal health information (PHI) in strict alignment with HIPAA regulations and organizational responsibilities.
  • Coordinate closely with Supervisor to ensure appropriate workloads and adequate coverage of assigned tasks.
  • Conduct health-related social needs (HRSN) screenings and assessments in the client’s preferred language (English or Spanish) to determine eligibility for nutrition and food assistance programs.
  • Actively demonstrate FFLC’s values of compassion, collaboration, and inclusion.
  • Represent FFLC to the public with knowledge and respect.
  • Attend mandatory all staff meetings.
  • Adhere to applicable FFLC Policies and Procedures.
  • Participate in staff events as directed by supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
