About The Position

Requirements

• Experienced Veterinary Technician; the posting does not specify a minimum number of years of experience.
• Ability to calculate basic medical math.
• Ability to handle patients compassionately, calmly, and gently.
• Knowledge of commonly used medication classifications, side effects, and therapeutic-response monitoring.
• Ability to administer medications via appropriate routes and durations.
• Ability to perform phlebotomy.
• Ability to place a peripheral intravenous catheter in the cephalic vein.
• Ability to recognize and report patient-status changes and abnormal exam or monitoring parameters.
• Ability to perform physical exams and accurately obtain or assess the listed vital signs and observations.
• Ability to intubate patients under the direction of a Level II technician or higher.
• Ability to read and follow treatment-sheet orders accurately and promptly.

Responsibilities

• Calculate basic medical math.
• Approach and handle patients compassionately, calmly, and gently.
• Understand commonly used medication classifications and associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic response.
• Administer medications by appropriate routes and for appropriate durations.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Place a peripheral intravenous catheter in the cephalic vein.
• Alert the veterinarian when a patient's status changes or physical exam or monitoring parameters fall outside normal ranges.
• Perform physical exams and accurately count heart and pulse rates, assess capillary refill time and mucous membranes, and measure temperature, respiratory rate, and respiratory effort.
• Intubate patients under the direction of a Level II technician or higher.
• Support the veterinarian and client through the euthanasia process.
• Read and follow treatment-sheet orders accurately and promptly.
