Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of operations experience; transportation-industry experience is preferred.
• Working knowledge of AS400 and Microsoft Office.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work assigned shifts as needed and according to customer pickup and delivery schedules.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and evaluate employee safety daily and provide safety training as needed.
• Monitor the safe and efficient planning, loading, and unloading of freight throughout the shift.
• Teach and evaluate safe lifting techniques, and use safe lifting practices when needed.
• Maintain housekeeping within the shift to support safety and productivity.
• Manage, assign, and supervise pickups and deliveries to ensure appropriate use and development of employees and equipment and to meet company and customer expectations.
• Work with service-center management to align operations with daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly business objectives.
• Provide instructions, analyses, suggestions, and ideas to improve operations within the shift, department, and facility.
• Give employees ongoing positive and constructive feedback on productivity and operational measures, including ROI, MPH, stops per hour, return shipments, missed shipments, and delivery and pickup errors.
• Conduct daily inspections for compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, including OSHA and DOT requirements.
• Ensure trailers are loaded correctly for safe freight transport.
• Pursue continuous improvement in service-center operations.
• Use the AS400 system, BLU system, DYMS, and other company computer and freight-monitoring systems to monitor freight movement.
• Complete forklift job training and operate a forklift as needed within the service center.
• Conduct daily shift meetings.
• Make timely decisions based on volume levels and communicate schedules to affected employees.
• Inspect tools and equipment for safe working condition and direct correction of improper or adverse conditions.
• Understand and ensure compliance with company and government regulations.
• Work assigned shifts as needed and remain available in accordance with customer pickup and delivery schedules.
• Use the company’s proprietary technology to monitor shipment locations as freight moves through terminals and communicate throughout the day with associates, customers, and team members verbally and through computer systems.
• Complete company and government forms used in freight movement, including shipping orders, city stripping manifests, freight bills, inter-terminal movement forms, and exception forms.
• Manage department staff, including hiring and disciplinary action.
