Requirements

  • Previous customer service, food service, retail, or grocery experience is required.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience is required.
  • Entry- to mid-level proficiency with MS Office.
  • Skills to manage financial results, including labor, sales, and profit margin.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Basic to intermediate math and computation skills are required.
  • Reading, understanding, and following through on verbal and written instructions.
  • Skills to exercise sound judgment at all times.
  • Skills to resolve conflicts and analyze various situations to find a solution.
  • Ability to speak, read, and understand English.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous produce experience in a retail, farm, or distribution environment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of POS, inventory, or other retail-specific software is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Produce Manager to manage department and staff, including financial stewardship, customer service, department conditions, merchandising, food safety, work safety, communication, hiring, training, and performance management.
  • Provide leadership in line with company values and promote a positive and progressive work environment.
  • Engage customers in a friendly manner, share product information, and assist in locating products.
  • Seek opportunities to exceed customer expectations and enhance the customer experience.
  • Manage own time and model a flexible work style, shifting tasks as priorities change.
  • Work cooperatively and positively with fellow team members.
  • Give and receive feedback constructively, demonstrating the company's Speak Up culture.

  • Observe all company rules and policies, understanding and complying with department or location guidelines.
  • Manage and provide oversight to all department areas, assessing, prioritizing, and delegating tasks and production.
  • Ensure consistency of department conditions, including stocking, rotation, facing, and merchandising standards.
  • Ensure satisfactory in-stock conditions and maintain appropriate inventory levels to achieve sales and margin goals.
  • Order products according to anticipated sales and seasonal needs, and train staff to write orders consistent with department goals.
  • Plan weekly ads, events, and holidays using tools and reports.
  • Build displays and arrange department products to make attractive presentations.
  • Maintain professional vendor relationships.
  • Ensure customer special orders are accurately placed and delivered.
  • Receive and unload merchandise, checking quality, count, and condition.
  • Stock and rotate products with attention to product quality and expiration dates.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and rotation of all areas, products, and supplies.
  • Plan, lead, and analyze monthly perishable inventory.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of labor, sales, and margin goals and factors that influence them.
  • Meet labor and margin goals and schedule department accordingly, developing and executing a plan when results do not meet expectations.
  • Coach the department to maintain appropriate, accurate, organized inventory and backstock.
  • Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of department equipment and train staff and troubleshoot errors.
  • Leverage resources and labor to maximize efficiency without compromising quality and service standards.
  • Balance administrative tasks with presence on the floor.
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
