About The Position

This role is responsible for the operations and full P&L of Loblaw Companies Ltd. pharmacies in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Northern Ontario. The Senior Director will lead and develop a team of Directors who, in turn, lead in-store teams. The primary goal is to coach, develop, and drive the success of the pharmacy to ensure a safe, effective, and growing pharmacy practice that provides exceptional patient care. This leader will play a key role in transforming the pharmacy patient experience, investing in the future of pharmacy, and improving community healthcare access. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the business, proven operational and change management experience, and a desire to make a difference by developing colleagues' skills, building accountability, achieving results, and fostering a positive customer and employee experience.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive, management related experience
  • PharmD or Bachelor of Science, Pharmacy; or equivalent
  • Excellent eye for business
  • Understanding of retail pharmacy processes
  • Proven track record to lead ground-breaking change efforts
  • Proven understanding of Pharmacy Landscape and Retail Industry
  • Strong existing / collaborative relationships with regulatory and advocacy partners
  • Strong interpersonal and people leadership skills; ability to empower a team
  • Demonstrated skills in relationship building and influencing to achieve results
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, coaching and mentoring skills required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Resides in Saskatchewan or Manitoba
  • Regular travel is required, often requiring overnight stays.

Nice To Haves

  • PharmD or Bachelor of Science, Pharmacy and a Class A Pharmacists license preferred
  • MBA preferred

Responsibilities

  • Full P&L accountability for pharmacies within Loblaw Companies Ltd. Grocery banners in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Northern Ontario; investigate, understand, review, and identify critical P&L components such as labour, inventory, growth opportunities etc.
  • Responsible for delivering on period results; proactive approach to identify gaps and opportunities.
  • Strive for continuous improvement in script growth and professional services, maintaining a thorough understanding of the competitive landscape.
  • Discuss business expectations relative to store execution/results.
  • Lead with our culture principles: Be Authentic, Build Trust, Make Connections, and our CORE (Care, Ownership, Respect, Excellence) values in mind.
  • Build and implement recruitment strategy and engagement/retention plans, in partnership with Human Resources; coordinate with and support Directors to ensure staffing needs are met.
  • Continuous talent development of Pharmacy Directors as it relates to the multifaceted pharmacy market and leadership.
  • Drive a positive, performance culture where colleagues feel accountability and ownership to impact a positive difference each day.
  • Partner with HR to actively build and lead talent, addressing underperforming colleagues, and participating in the recruitment process through interviews and identifying suitable candidates.
  • Monitor and review weekly sales projections, labour and workflow, shrink, and inventory, training, professional services, quality assurance, promotional programs, store presentation and project rollouts with Directors.
  • Consistent communication with Directors to keep them updated on the implementation of programs and initiatives, accountabilities, and provincial pharmacy regulatory changes.
  • Find opportunities through review of store standards, department appearance, merchandising, signing, backroom and labour standards, resulting in improved department conditions, sales and costs based on execution of recommended solutions; resulting in a professional appearance and level of service, improved quality assurance, sales and costs.
  • Lead and advise the timely execution of Pharmacy projects, initiatives, monthly department plans and rollouts.
  • Support and assist Directors with development/projects, set-up of all new store openings and expansions.
  • Assess and communicate feedback on projects, support programs or layout concerns to central teams.
  • Regular dialogue with the enterprise pharmacy team and Ops VP, relative to upcoming promotions, staffing, service and store specific commitments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with District Managers and Vice Presidents of respective grocery banners to ensure appropriate knowledge and partnership and business insight.
  • Competitive monitoring of Pharmacy retail environment in respective provinces to ensure Loblaw pharmacies are the industry leaders.
  • Apply expertise on provincial and federal pharmacy regulations as well as standard operating procedures and policies.
  • Promote representation on provincial regulatory bodies and advocacy groups (applicable associations).
  • Share insights into the competitive landscape with the enterprise pharmacy team (fees, market share, pricing, volumes, programs, promotions, pharmacy talent).
