About The Position
National Heritage Academies is seeking a dedicated Occupational Therapist for a local traveling role serving East Arbor Charter Academy and Arbor Preparatory High School in Ypsilanti Township, Michigan, and Achieve Charter Academy in Canton Township, Michigan. The role offers a dynamic work environment and requires flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of students and schools. This part-time position is 34 hours per week, with a starting salary of $64,005, commensurate with experience. The Occupational Therapist provides services to help students reach their full potential, including direct and indirect therapy, assessment, consultation, collaboration with school teams and families, and support for students’ educational plans. National Heritage Academies partners with communities to build and operate public charter schools. Founded in 1995, NHA serves more than 100 schools across nine states and more than 65,000 K–12 students. Requirements
- American Occupational Therapy License.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct and indirect occupational therapy services as outlined in students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or Section 504 plans.
- Assess motor, visual-motor, and sensory-motor skills for students referred for special education evaluation to help determine eligibility for services.
- Participate in the IEP/Section 504 process and provide input on assessment measures, intervention strategies, and student progress.
- Collaborate with the special education team to deliver comprehensive services to students with disabilities.
- Consult with teachers, school administrators, parents, and other relevant stakeholders about students’ physical, motor, and sensory development.
- Work with teachers to integrate occupational therapy goals into the classroom and support classroom objectives through therapy programs.
- Train relevant individuals in effective methods of assisting students in mainstream settings.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and adjust occupational therapy interventions with school staff and parents.
- Use physical, sensory, manual, creative, and recreational treatment strategies to support student development.
- Design adaptive equipment and devices for individual students and classroom use.
- Maintain accurate records of student caseload requirements and update the Special Education Administrator about changes.
- Maintain a detailed schedule and service logs, and track student progress toward therapy goals.
- Handle confidential matters and materials professionally.
- Pursue ongoing professional development to stay informed about current occupational therapy practices and research.
- Participate in school initiatives, including screening programs that support student development.
- Attend parent-teacher meetings as needed to discuss student progress and therapy plans.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the building principal.
