About The Position

This position serves as a clinical expert, promoting evidence-based practice and hospital initiatives. The role involves acting as a primary preceptor for new graduate nurses and new hires, and is responsible for developing the orientation process for new nurses. The nurse will participate in the development of interdisciplinary care plans, collaborating with various departments to coordinate patient care. This role also includes mentoring, coaching, and educating staff, conducting safety huddles, facilitating learning using Benner's model and adult learning principles, and resolving conflicts. The nurse will participate in Quality Assessment Performance Improvement (QAPI) processes, schedule assessments and goals for staff, and collaborate with clinical education and the Nurse Executive to improve staff competencies. Additionally, the role requires completing all yearly Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) required training and assisting with compliance with CMS standards. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years nursing experience in Operating Room (OR), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), or Emergency Department (ED) involving direct patient care.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in providing education and training to nursing staff.
  • Associate of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program.
  • Valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in any U.S. State or Territory.
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintain certification.
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and maintain certification.
  • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and maintain certification.
  • Valid, unrestricted insurable driver’s license.
  • Resume and references are required.

  • Obtain valid certification in Moderate Sedation within one (1) month from date of hire and maintain certification.
  • Obtain valid Emergency Nursing Association (ENA) certification in Trauma Nursing Care Course (TNCC) within one (1) year from date of hire and maintain certification.
  • Obtain valid Emergency Nursing Association (ENA) certification in Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) within one (1) year from date of hire and maintain certification.
  • Obtain valid American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within one (1) year from date of hire and maintain certification.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a clinical expert promoting adherence to evidence-based practice and hospital initiatives.
  • Serve as primary preceptor for new graduate nurses and new hires.
  • Develop the orientation process for new nurses.
  • Participate in the development of interdisciplinary care plans within the unit.
  • Serve as a mentor, coach, and educator for new and existing staff.
  • Conduct Safety Huddles at the beginning of shifts to discuss unit-specific safety issues.
  • Facilitate learning on the unit utilizing Benner’s model for clinical practice.
  • Provide effective developmental feedback to assigned nurses regarding performance and improvement.
  • Utilize effective problem-solving strategies and resolve conflicts constructively.
  • Facilitate learning using adult learning principles to stimulate problem-solving skills and encourage personal development.
  • Participate in the unit Quality Assessment Performance Improvement (QAPI) processes and assist staff in meeting project deadlines.
  • Schedule ongoing assessments and goals for staff members in conjunction with the Nurse Executive.
  • Facilitate and expand staff knowledge and professional growth.
  • Collaborate with the clinical education department to provide unit-specific training to staff.
  • Collaborate with Nurse Executive to review and improve staff competencies and report on assigned nurse’s progress.
  • Complete all yearly Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) required training by the indicated due dates.
  • Assist, promote, and support compliance with established CMS standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
