About The Position

Requirements

• Master’s degree in social work from a school fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE); a doctoral degree may not substitute for the master’s degree.
• Licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master’s degree level.
• For program coordinator assignment, advanced-practice-level licensure or certification and ability to provide supervision for licensure.
• One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, demonstrating advanced practice skills, judgment, and progressively greater professional competency.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Skill in coordinating and implementing one or more specialty programs across a facility.
• Skill in developing local program policy, practices, procedures, or guidelines in accordance with program handbooks or national directives.
• Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet multiple deadlines, and evaluate assigned program areas.
• Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to advance program goals and patient-centered care.
• Ability to perform supervisory duties, including assigning work, evaluating performance, selecting and training staff, and recommending awards, advancements, and disciplinary action when appropriate.
• Ability to oversee fiscal matters, including fund controls, contracts, equipment expenditures, forecasting resource and equipment needs, and administering an allocated budget.
• Knowledge of organizational structure and its impact on program operations.
• U.S. citizenship is required, subject to the stated VA policy exception for non-citizens when qualified citizens cannot be recruited.
• Must satisfy applicable background/security investigation, pre-employment physical examination, drug testing if selected for a testing-designated position, onboarding, identification, and seasonal influenza vaccination requirements.
• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must meet Selective Service registration requirements.
• May be required to serve a two-year trial period.

Responsibilities

• Administer information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of services provided to patients.
• Develop and implement systems to track service activities, including visits, referrals, inpatient days, patient demographics, equipment utilization, and patient satisfaction.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate clinical guidelines and protocols to establish appropriate utilization of services.
• Coordinate interdisciplinary staffing, work assignments, budgets, treatment services, and program admission criteria.
• Oversee program resource and fiscal management, monitor control points, develop the annual budget, operate within the budget, and account for appropriated funds.
• Develop policies and procedures for program operations and prepare reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use.
• Provide leadership, direction, orientation, coaching, in-service training, staff development, and continuing education for assigned staff.
• Initiate and conduct program or service audits and complete designated clinical practice audits and reports, including productivity reports.
• Oversee program operations and evaluations; identify improvement areas, gather and assess relevant data, develop and implement improvements, and evaluate their effectiveness.
• Provide administrative, technical, and clinical supervision as needed, including supervision of staff at various GS levels.
• Perform personnel management duties such as assigning and reviewing work, setting performance expectations, evaluating performance, resolving informal complaints, advising staff, reviewing leave requests, and recommending or taking personnel actions within delegated authority.
• Ensure subordinates are trained and comply with safety regulations, and support equal employment opportunity objectives and nondiscriminatory employment practices.
• Provide technical assistance to state, local, and private agencies and universities based on monitoring, program reviews, and information analysis.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to advance program goals and patient-centered care.

Benefits

• Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), subject to individual eligibility and program approval; award amount may be up to $200,000 over one to five years.
