About The Position

Atrium Health's Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute is seeking an experienced Cardiology Acute Care NP or PA to join their Inpatient General Cardiology Service at Atrium Health- Mercy. This role is part of a team-based care model and operates autonomously with remote cardiology physician supervision. The service is consult-only. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated with excellent communication and organizational skills, dedicated to providing quality care to patients in the Greater Charlotte community. The APP will work with a team of specialized cardiology physicians and APPs, performing daily rounding, new consults, ordering diagnostic studies, and independently formulating assessments and plans. Competence in taking medical histories, assessing medical conditions, interpreting findings, and communicating effectively with patients and colleagues is essential. The APP must also maintain quality assurance and quality control standards.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited NP or PA program.
  • Current license to practice as a NP or PA in North Carolina.
  • Current prescriptive privileges and DEA license required.
  • BLS/ACLS Certified.
  • Nurse practitioners are required to have Acute Care Certification.
  • Physician Assistants with certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants required.
  • 1+ years of experience as a provider required.
  • Experience in Cardiology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for daily rounding as well as triaging and completing new inpatient consults.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat common cardiac conditions to both new patients in the Emergency Department and established patients on the medical and surgical services.
  • Order and facilitate diagnostic studies, including but not limited to echocardiograms, ECGs, and stress tests, as well as appropriate laboratory studies.
  • Explain necessity, preparation, risks and benefits of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient and family.
  • Document efficiently, thoroughly, and thoughtfully.
  • Recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately.
  • Coordinate appropriate transfers to facilitate higher level of care.
  • Participate in evaluations with the primary supervising physician as directed by State laws.
  • Maintain ACLS and BLS certification as well as all licenses and certifications as mandated by the Hospital Credentialing Committee.
  • Exhibit respect for others by displaying a positive, courteous attitude at all times.
  • Participate in staff meetings, in-services, and continuing education for job-related growth.
