About The Position

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Submit a cover letter describing interest in the program.
• Obtain BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
• Commit to five years of employment in Washington state rural healthcare.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Experience with technology.

Responsibilities

• Welcome patients and escort them to exam rooms.
• Take patients’ vital signs in preparation for appointments.
• Document in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Anticipate provider needs to maintain efficient patient flow.
• Perform phlebotomy and laboratory procedures as directed by the provider.
• Perform and document injections and immunizations.
• Keep exam rooms clean, stocked, and ready for patients.
• Assist providers with procedures, exams, and patient education.
• Manage appropriate patient referrals and required documentation.
• Follow required safety protocols, including safe handling and disposal of sharps, use of personal protective equipment, precautions related to blood-borne pathogens, and general employee and patient safety.
• Support care team members.
• Order medication refills within scope of practice as directed by the provider.
• Complete 2,000 hours of on-the-job training, 410 hours of supplemental online coursework, and three in-person lab days.
• Meet the apprentice expectations outlined in the syllabus.
