About The Position

The Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program is a six-month, paid earn-to-learn program for candidates interested in healthcare. Apprentices receive hands-on training from experienced preceptors in outpatient primary care and specialty clinics across the greater Portland metropolitan area. The program includes at least 1,000 clinical training hours and pays a full-time wage, with a mid-point pay increase. Apprentices must also complete 10–15 hours of unpaid coursework each week outside clinic hours during the first 20 weeks. Coursework includes live sessions on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:00–9:00 p.m., along with asynchronous work. Clinic training is in person, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week). Apprentices must be flexible about clinic assignments and commuting because training clinics are limited. Candidates must complete the program requirements and agree to work for Providence for at least two years after graduation. New apprentices must begin on January 25, 2027. Applications close on November 17, 2026, and applicants must submit a short self-recorded video answering an interview question as part of the application. Applications without a video will not be considered.
