The Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program is an approximately six-month, paid, full-time earn-to-learn program for candidates preparing to become Medical Assistants. Apprentices receive hands-on training from experienced preceptors in outpatient clinics in the Missoula area and must complete at least 1,000 clinical training hours. Clinic training is in person for 40 hours per week, with some flexibility, at Primary Care and Specialty clinics in Missoula, Ravalli, and Lake counties. Apprentices must be flexible about clinic locations and commutes due to the limited number of training clinics. In addition to clinic training, apprentices complete 10–15 hours of unpaid coursework each week outside clinic hours for the first 20 weeks. Coursework includes live, synchronous sessions Mondays and Thursdays from 6:00–9:00 p.m., as well as asynchronous work that can be completed at convenient times. Apprentices must successfully complete program requirements and work for Providence for at least one year after graduation. New apprentices must start January 25, 2027.
