About The Position

Nutrition 101 LLC, headquartered in Pendleton, IN, is a leader in eco-friendly waste handling and innovative food lifecycle management solutions. We help food processors, manufacturers, and retailers maximize value by turning food byproducts into sustainable resources, from upcycled livestock feed to comprehensive waste management services. The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing 101’s fleet of vehicles to ensure they are safe, reliable, and in optimal working condition. This position helps prevent costly repairs, extend vehicle lifespan, minimize vehicle downtime, and support operational efficiency by keeping the fleet in peak condition. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without the need for current or future immigration sponsorship.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2-5+ years of experience in diesel engine repair, fleet maintenance, or heavy equipment mechanics
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, braking systems, and HVAC components
  • Experience with diagnostic software and tools (OEM systems, scan tools, telematics)
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documents
  • Familiarity with DOT inspection requirements and preventative maintenance programs
  • Basic computer skills for work orders, parts lookup, and maintenance tracking systems
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry parts, tools, equipment, and components up to 75 lbs regularly.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing.
  • Ability to stand, crouch, kneel, bend, crawl under vehicles, and climb ladders.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, under vehicles, and at varying heights.
  • Manual dexterity to use power tools, diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and heavy-duty shop equipment.
  • Ability to work in a shop environment and occasionally outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow).
  • Ability to work in noisy, greasy, and high-activity environments around moving vehicles and machinery.
  • Visual acuity to identify mechanical issues, read gauges, review diagnostic data, and perform repairs with precision.
  • Hearing ability sufficient to detect alarms, unusual engine noises, and communicate clearly in a shop setting.
  • Ability to safely operate lifts, jacks, air tools, and other shop equipment.
  • Ability to wear PPE including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, gloves, hearing protection, and high-visibility clothing.
  • Ability to travel occasionally for roadside assistance, parts pickup, or support at other facilities.
  • Tolerance for extended periods of physical activity and occasional overtime or emergency call-outs.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or trade school certification in diesel technology, preferred
  • CDL preferred or ability to obtain

Responsibilities

  • Uphold and maintain the highest standards of the Company’s mission, vision, and core values.
  • Lead by example in the adherence of all Company policies, processes and procedures in accordance with the Employee Manual, Safety Manual, Department Manuals, etc.
  • Perform regular inspections on fleet vehicles to identify wear, damage, or safety issues.
  • Use diagnostic tools and software to assess mechanical and electrical problems, ensuring accurate repairs.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, such as oil changes, tire rotations, brake inspections, and fluid level checks.
  • Repair and replace defective or worn components, including engines, brakes, and electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to minimize future issues and extend the lifespan of vehicles.
  • Maintain detailed service records for each vehicle, including inspection reports, repairs, and parts replacements.
  • Ensure all vehicles meet safety, emissions, and regulatory standards, and complete required documentation for compliance.
  • Utilize any new CMMS software implemented within the company.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of essential tools, parts, and supplies.
  • Order parts as needed and ensure the shop is stocked to handle common repairs quickly.
  • Coordinate with fleet managers, drivers, and other team members to discuss vehicle issues, repairs, and maintenance schedules.
  • Report major repairs or fleet status updates to the Fleet Manager.
  • Attend all Company meetings and trainings as required.
  • Be willing to participate in the training of others as necessary.
