About The Position

Requirements

• Be a U.S. citizen and be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Participate in the direct deposit pay program.
• Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check if a new employee to the Department of the Navy.
• Obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance before entering on duty.
• Obtain and maintain a current, valid United States driver’s license.
• Meet the Selective Service registration requirement if a male born after December 31, 1959.
• Have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in federal service, or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
• Demonstrate the ability to interpret contracts for transportation services.
• Pull and analyze data to create reports for leadership.
• Demonstrate knowledge of port operations functions, such as berthing, docking evolutions, diving operations, and hotel services.

Responsibilities

• Stand watch in the Harbor Control Tower and coordinate all vessel traffic.
• Assist the Port Services Coordinator with arranging pilot and tugboat assignments for naval vessels in the Hawaii region.
• Update and disseminate the vessel movement schedule when changes or additions occur.
• Notify security of work performed by small crafts in and around piers and dry-docks.
• Monitor regional bases’ weather and wind speed, and initiate emergency procedures when conditions require preventive measures.
• Maintain a computerized log documenting port activity, including vessel movements, personnel injuries, fires, petroleum spills, and crane accidents.
