About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is seeking a veterinarian to provide in-home hospice and peaceful euthanasia care in Des Moines, Beaverdale, Pleasant Hill, Iowa, and surrounding areas. The family-owned organization emphasizes compassionate, meaningful medicine, professional independence, and respect for veterinarians, without corporate production pressure or non-compete agreements. A dedicated support team coordinates appointments, families, and aftercare so veterinarians can focus on patients and families. The role offers full-time and part-time schedules, including two-, three-, four-, and five-day opportunities, as well as self-managed flexible scheduling. Compensation is prorated for agreed schedules; four-day positions start at $90,000 annually, and five-day positions offer a $125,000 annual base salary. Additional quarterly performance-based bonus opportunities are available. Benefits and eligibility vary by position.

Requirements

  • DVM/VMD or equivalent veterinary degree.
  • Active North Carolina veterinary license or eligibility.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Compassionate approach and commitment to exceptional end-of-life care.
  • Availability consistent with the position's schedule, including some weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Hospice experience is not required; support is provided to veterinarians transitioning into this field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-home hospice and peaceful euthanasia care for pets.
