About The Position

Requirements

• DVM or VMD degree from an AVMA-accredited college, or ECFVG/PAVE equivalent.
• Active veterinary license in good standing, USDA license, and DEA registration, or ability to obtain them in the practicing state.
• At least 5 years of practice experience in general medicine and surgery; residency or internship trained.
• Comfort performing cystotomy, abdominal exploratory surgery, pyometra surgery, gastrotomy, enterotomy, and splenectomy.
• Strong practice skills and commitment to high-quality, evidence-based medicine and patient care.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with clients, team members, and peers.
• Collaborative mindset and ability to contribute to a positive, team-oriented culture.
• Willingness to learn, grow, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Interest in building client relationships and educating clients about preventative care and treatment plans.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Professional, compassionate, and respectful demeanor aligned with Chewy Vet Care’s mission and values.
• Ability to stand or walk for up to 80% of each shift; frequently lift up to 50 pounds; frequently lift up to 70 pounds with an optional team lift; rarely lift more than 70 pounds with a team lift; and stand, push, pull, carry, squat, and kneel.

Responsibilities

• Provide thorough, compassionate medical, surgical, and preventative care to pets.
• Ensure an exceptional patient and client experience at every touchpoint.
• Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
• Meet defined individual performance targets and key metrics.
• Support the growth and development of paraprofessional team members in a learning-focused culture.
• Perform complex surgical procedures and provide care for complicated medical cases.
• Work with the Lead Veterinarian and Regional Medical Director to review performance metrics and support hospital operational and financial goals.
• Build client trust and rapport through clear communication and education.
• Collaborate with and delegate to veterinary team members to provide efficient, cohesive, team-based care.
• Support a welcoming and professional environment for clients and team members.
• Foster a respectful, supportive team atmosphere; remain open to feedback and learning; and contribute to appreciation and recognition.
• Stay current with medical advancements and veterinary industry standards, and contribute expertise and curiosity to case discussions and problem-solving.
• Advocate for pets while aligning with Chewy Vet Care’s care philosophy.
• Consistently exemplify Chewy Vet Care’s tenets and operating principles and promote its mission of enhancing pet health and well-being.
• May oversee controlled-substance accountability, regulatory compliance, records, ordering, storage, inventory, reconciliation, and disposal in accordance with applicable policies and regulations.
