About The Position

Heartstrings Pet Hospice is hiring a veterinarian to provide in-home hospice and peaceful euthanasia care in Portland, Maine, and surrounding areas. The privately and family-owned organization emphasizes professional independence, compassionate end-of-life medicine, and meaningful time with pets and their families. Veterinarians receive support coordinating appointments, families, and aftercare while retaining professional autonomy. Hospice experience is not required; onboarding and support are provided for veterinarians transitioning into this field. The role is available in full-time and part-time arrangements, with 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-day opportunities, including self-managed flexible scheduling options. Compensation is prorated for agreed-upon schedules. Four-day positions start at $100,000 annually, and five-day positions offer a $135,000 annual base salary, with additional quarterly performance-based bonus opportunities. Benefits vary by position and eligibility.

Requirements

DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree.
Active North Carolina veterinary license or eligibility.
Valid driver's license.
Compassionate approach and commitment to exceptional end-of-life care.
Availability consistent with the position's schedule, including some weekends.

Responsibilities
