Vetco Relief Veterinarian - Salem, OR
About The Position
Vetco, a division of Petco, is seeking independent veterinary contractors to provide accessible, high-quality care for pets. Relief veterinarians choose their own shifts through flexible online booking, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts required. Weekday and weekend shifts are available, and veterinarians determine their rate for each selected shift. They may continue practice activities outside Vetco shifts, with no agency fees. Vetco uses an appointment-based model to help manage patient traffic and keep shifts on schedule. Trained staff support clinic and hospital operations so veterinarians can focus on care and the patient experience. Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide wellness examinations, preventive vaccinations and medications, heartworm testing, and microchip insertion; they do not provide surgery, emergency care, or sick visits. Clinics are located inside Petco retail locations. Vetco Total Care Hospital relief shifts may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. Veterinarians review case comfort levels with the area medical director before shifts. Hospitals have digital patient records, a surgical suite, Butterfly IQ+ handheld ultrasound imaging, digital and dental X-ray, Vetology Radiograph Interpretation AI, and on-site labs. There are no overnight shifts or emergency on-call duties.
Requirements
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
- State veterinary license in good standing.
- Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all shift functions, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
- Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
Nice To Haves
- DEA registration in good standing is preferred for full-service Vetco Total Care hospital relief shifts.
Responsibilities
- Provide veterinary care during selected relief shifts.
- At Vetco Vaccination Clinics, provide wellness examinations, preventive vaccinations and medications, heartworm testing, and microchip insertion.
- At Vetco Total Care Hospitals, provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures as appropriate to the veterinarian’s comfort level.
- Review case comfort levels with the area medical director before hospital shifts.
- Comply with all local, state, and federal mandates.
