About The Position

Petco Veterinary Services offers relief veterinarians opportunities to work in Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care full-service veterinary hospitals. The role provides flexible online scheduling, with no minimum or maximum number of shifts, and weekday and weekend shifts available. Veterinarians set their own rate for each shift and may continue practice activities outside Petco shifts, with no agency fees. An appointment-based model helps manage patient flow and support on-time departures, while trained staff handle operational tasks so veterinarians can focus on patient care.

Vetco Vaccination Clinics provide basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement. They do not provide surgery, emergency, or illness care, and are primarily located within Petco stores, with some operating from mobile van units. Vetco Total Care hospitals provide preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures. These hospitals have digital dental X-rays, Butterfly IQ+ Vet ultrasound imaging, and equipped surgery suites. Hospital staff are licensed and trained, and there are no overnight or emergency on-call shifts.

Relief veterinarians receive clinic news, policy updates, and product announcements through a monthly newsletter, as well as a 15% discount on Petco products and services.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.
• State veterinary license in good standing.
• Appropriate state-specific licensing to perform all functions required during the shift, including blood draws and vaccine administration.
• DEA registration in good standing for relief shifts at full-service Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• Ability to provide professional liability insurance and a license defense policy.
• Compliance with all local, state, and federal mandates.

Responsibilities

• Provide veterinary care during relief shifts at Vetco Vaccination Clinics or Vetco Total Care hospitals.
• At vaccination clinics, perform basic wellness checks, vaccinations, heartworm testing, and microchip placement.
• At full-service hospitals, provide services that may include preventive care, diagnostic workups, outpatient surgeries, and dental procedures.
• Comply with applicable local, state, and federal mandates.
