About The Position

Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center (OPVMC) seeks a board-certified or residency-trained Veterinary Surgeon to join its established and expanding surgical department. The position is full-time or part-time and is part of a 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital serving Western New York. The surgeon will provide advanced care for a diverse caseload, including soft tissue, orthopedic, neurologic, and emergency surgical procedures, working with specialists, emergency clinicians, Licensed Veterinary Technicians, and support staff. The role offers access to modern equipment, advanced diagnostics, experienced technical staff, and an established referral network. The surgeon will contribute to the continued growth of the surgical service in a collaborative environment that emphasizes communication, clinical excellence, mentorship, continuing education, and professional growth. OPVMC has provided emergency, specialty, and referral services for more than 30 years. Requirements

DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited veterinary school.
Board certification in Small Animal Surgery (ACVS or ECVS), or completion of a surgical residency with intent to pursue board certification.
Licensed or eligible for veterinary licensure in New York State.
Three or more years of clinical experience in small animal surgery.
Experience performing a wide range of soft tissue and orthopedic procedures.
Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-volume referral and emergency setting.
Interest in contributing to the continued growth and advancement of a surgical service.

Responsibilities

Provide surgical care across soft tissue, orthopedic, neurologic, and emergency procedures.
Participate in emergency surgical coverage as part of a 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital.
Collaborate with Internal Medicine, Oncology, Radiology, Emergency and Critical Care, and other specialty services.
Evaluate surgical candidates, develop individualized treatment plans, and perform advanced procedures while prioritizing patient safety and comfort.
Communicate with clients, referring veterinarians, and internal team members about diagnoses, treatment recommendations, prognoses, and follow-up care.
Mentor and support Licensed Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants, interns, and other surgical support team members.
Participate in surgical case rounds, continuing education, and multidisciplinary discussions.
Use advanced diagnostic and surgical technologies, including digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, CT imaging, and in-house laboratory services.
Maintain accurate and timely medical records using EzyVet and Smart Flow.
Stay current with veterinary surgery advancements through continuing education, professional development, and evidence-based medicine.
Contribute to the growth and advancement of the surgical service.
