About The Position

The Urgent Care Medical Assistant in Clinic Operations supports providers in delivering timely, high-quality patient care in a fast-paced, walk-in urgent care setting. This per diem, hourly role requires flexibility, strong clinical skills, and excellent communication. The Medical Assistant will perform direct patient care tasks, assist with clinical procedures, and manage essential administrative and documentation duties to ensure efficient patient flow and a positive experience for every patient.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant or similar clinical support role, preferably in an urgent care, emergency, or ambulatory care setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in blood draws (phlebotomy), including safe venipuncture technique and specimen handling.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in administering injections, including vaccines and medications, in accordance with provider orders and protocols.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform and obtain quality EKGs, including proper lead placement and basic troubleshooting of equipment.
  • Strong patient care skills, with the ability to interact compassionately and professionally with patients of all ages in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with medical records documentation (electronic or paper), with attention to accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality.
  • Professional phone etiquette and clear verbal communication skills for interacting with patients, providers, and staff.
  • Ability to work 10-hour shifts (8:45 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.) with a 30-minute lunch and to adapt to changing patient volumes and priorities.
  • Knowledge of basic infection control practices and standard precautions in a clinical environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic for extended periods and to assist with occasional lifting or positioning of patients as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and room patients, obtain and document accurate vital signs, medical histories, and chief complaints in the medical record system.
  • Perform blood draws (phlebotomy), administer injections, and conduct EKGs in accordance with provider orders and clinical protocols.
  • Prepare patients and exam rooms for procedures, ensuring proper supplies, equipment, and infection control standards are maintained.
  • Support providers during examinations and minor urgent care procedures by setting up instruments, assisting as needed, and providing patient support.
  • Manage medical records, including accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters, treatments, and test results.
  • Answer phones and respond to patient inquiries with professional phone etiquette, routing calls and messages appropriately.
  • Coordinate patient flow to minimize wait times, including communicating with front desk, providers, and other staff regarding room availability and patient status.
  • Perform basic diagnostic support such as point-of-care testing (as permitted) and ensure proper specimen handling, labeling, and documentation.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked clinical environment, including cleaning and restocking exam rooms between patients.
  • Follow all clinic policies, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements to ensure patient and staff safety in the urgent care setting.
  • Collaborate with the urgent care team to support a patient-centered, efficient, and compassionate care environment during 10-hour shifts.
