About The Position

NaphCare is seeking to hire an EMT or Paramedic to join their team of medical professionals in the Forsyth County Detention Center in Winston Salem, NC. As a Correctional EMT / Paramedic, the role involves working alongside correctional officers and other medical professionals to provide care to individuals in residence. This position operates within a controlled environment where security is a top priority, offering diverse duties such as assessing and treating patients, responding to emergencies, and assisting with medical protocols. New graduates are encouraged to apply, as NaphCare provides training in correctional healthcare.

Requirements

  • Completion of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or a higher-level Paramedic program
  • Ability to obtain the necessary state licenses for EMT or Paramedic
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
  • Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements

Nice To Haves

  • American Heart Association preferred for BLS CPR Certification

Responsibilities

  • Responding to emergencies, administering medications, and coordinating with other staff to ensure inmate health and safety
  • Assist with performing patient assessments, interviewing patients about current health problems, medication history
  • Taking vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, respiration, and weight, draw blood
  • Documenting medical history including medications, treatment and medical conditions
  • Assisting with the maintenance of medical equipment and supplies within the facility
  • Complete intake screening
  • Administer and read PPD
  • Ensuring the safety and security of inmates and staff during medical procedures and transport
  • Observing and reporting changes in patients’ physical or mental health to nurses
