A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Barista, you are an integral member of the team at the heart of our Cafés. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way by saying hello, answering questions and consistently going out of your way to connect readers with the right beverages and café items. You are an essential part of the café team in maintaining the attractive presentation and ensuring the efficient running of the Café, including unpacking and stocking deliveries, tidying the bakes case and dining area, and working registers quickly and friendly. The role requires good "behaviors" such as reliable and punctual attendance, flexibility to fill scheduling gaps (including weekends and holidays), a positive and willing approach, supportiveness towards colleagues, cheerfulness with customers, and an aptitude for learning new skills. You will be trained and expected to master operational competencies including using varied technology (registers, computers, tablets), developing merchandising and visual merchandising skills, running a register, supporting deliveries and stocking, making food and drinks accurately, maintaining café cleanliness, following FIFO practices, supporting the bookfloor team, and understanding loss prevention procedures. The position involves physical activity like prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and walking. As you gain experience, you will build café knowledge of products, maintain presentation, support sales objectives, make customization recommendations, understand café retail options, use training tools, and adhere to safety, hygiene, and sanitation guidelines. The role offers a career path to Senior Barista and requires compliance with all company policies and procedures.
