About The Position

The National Gallery of Canada is seeking a Graphic Designer with experience in digital marketing and accessible design standards to join the Public Affairs and Marketing team. Working under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Marketing and Sponsorship, the Graphic Designer works within an established brand to develop designs for NGC campaigns and projects including corporate, exhibitions, public programming, events, membership, sponsorships, Boutique, food services and visitor services. They deliver overall layout and production design of promotional materials, social media content, signage, large-format environmental graphics, presentations, branded products, and visitor-facing materials. They will also contribute to creative discussions with colleagues across the NGC to develop innovative approaches to audience development. The Graphic Designer will demonstrate strong knowledge of marketing design principles and an understanding of digital and traditional channels. They will assist in driving the creative direction of design projects within the Marketing team, bringing an understanding of typography and layout to produce the best work possible.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in graphic design in the marketing industry.
  • Current knowledge of design best practices, digital marketing, and accessible design standards.
  • Excellent knowledge of the most recent releases of graphic design software including Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
  • Knowledge of digital marketing channels and experience designing for social media, web advertising, digital signage and email marketing.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with different levels of institutional seniority.
  • Knowledge of contemporary printing industry processes, including available media and output methods, colour process and proofing, quality control, and requirements for digital file preparation.
  • Advanced knowledge of Macintosh computer hardware and the Mac OS X operating systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of graphic design practices and procedures, an excellent ability to recognize proper design typography, and a high level of design refinement while working within an established brand.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills with the ability to express key messages from a design brief in a clear and concise manner.
  • Flexibility in responding to multiple tasks, often conflicting demands and priorities, with frequent interruptions.
