Full-Time High School Special Education Paraprofessional and Daycare Assistant - Overland/RSHS

About The Position

This position involves assisting teachers in both a preschool/daycare setting and a high school special education resource room. The role focuses on implementing daily assistance to maximize student learning, addressing social, emotional, behavioral, academic, and personal needs of special education students under the direction of a supervising teacher. The paraprofessional will support teachers and students in the daycare and at Rock Springs High School, interacting directly with children, modeling desired behaviors, and facilitating a positive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate positively throughout the work day
  • Ability to follow and successfully complete both written and oral directions
  • Ability to think clearly and calculate accurately

  • Possess good organizational and time management skills
  • Possess sound emotional judgment
  • Sub certification (exclusive to School District Preschool and Daycare), preferred
  • Associate degree in early childhood education, child development or related field or a Child Development Associate Certificate or (CDA).
  • Experience working with birth thru elementary-aged children is preferred.
  • Adequate hearing and vision skills
  • Be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Be able to sit for up to 4 hours at a time.
  • Be able to work at a computer monitor for extended lengths of time.
  • Be able to accurately take handwritten or typed notes during classes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the daycare classroom.
  • Assist in implementing teacher's plans for students in all academic/behavioral/personal areas, as directed by supervising resource room Teacher on a daily basis.
  • Provides student accommodations and/or modifications as outlined by individual students IEP's.
  • Assists supervising resource room Teacher in collecting data on individual student's IEP goals and objectives.
  • Facilitates in the supervision and classroom management of all students as directed and consistent with the supervising Teacher's management plan.
  • Assists the supervising Teacher with individual student hygiene, which may include toileting, personal hygiene, and feeding tasks when appropriate.
  • Provides supervision within the educational setting.
  • Provides instructional and behavioral supports to students as documented in individual students IEP.
  • Assists the supervising teacher in preparing the classroom, materials, and equipment for use in specific instructional programs on a daily basis.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information concerning students, staff, parent/guardian in any public setting, classroom or area where students or uninvolved staff are involved.
  • Uses positive verbal and non-verbal communication and interaction skills when working with students, district, personnel, and co-workers at all times.
  • Locates and organizes any instructional materials as directed by the supervising teacher.
  • Corrects assignments as directed by the supervising teacher.
  • Intervenes with students, at the direction of the teacher or administrator, in crisis/emergency situations.
  • Seeks appropriate additional tasks when assigned work is completed.
  • Cooperates with other staff and classroom groups to maintain the smooth functioning of the classroom and program, which at times may require changes to meet the needs of the children.
  • Works with other teachers, teacher assistants, and volunteers to use and develop their skills and abilities in planning and carrying out classroom activities.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy classroom environment.
  • Assures that classroom equipment, furniture, materials, and supplies are properly maintained and stored.
  • Uses the playground and gym as an extension of the classroom and assures the playground and gym are safe.
  • Develops own professional work goals and training plan in consultation with coaching and feedback.
  • Possesses and maintains licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Demonstrates regular attendance and punctuality as required of position.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.
  • Participates in additional training to increase knowledge base.
