The Coding & Documentation Educator serves as an internal resource to clinicians, providing training, consultation, audit, and coordinated feedback on their medical service documentation and coding. This ensures that Mayo Clinic receives appropriate reimbursement and conforms to applicable guidelines and regulations. The position involves performing medical record audits to ensure compliance with all applicable coding regulations as well as with organizational standards, practices, policies, and procedures. It is intended to provide elbow-to-elbow coding and documentation support through various methods such as ad hoc phone calls, site visits, the creation of specialty or individual provider tip sheets, and virtual and on-site presentations. The educator acts as a subject matter expert with specialty-specific knowledge of surgical, E&M, diagnosis coding & documentation. They analyze data, communicate findings, and facilitate improvement efforts. The role also involves independently developing and maintaining educational materials and training programs, working in conjunction with the clinical practice managers and production coding leadership teams. While primarily a 100% remote position, on-site work may be required to interact with physicians as directed by the manager.
