About The Position

The Adjunct Instructor in Criminal Justice provides high-quality instruction in undergraduate and/or graduate criminal justice courses while supporting Northeastern State University's mission of excellence in teaching, student success, workforce development, and community engagement. Adjunct faculty are hired on a semester-by-semester basis to meet instructional needs and may teach face-to-face, online, hybrid, or concurrent enrollment courses at the Tahlequah, Broken Arrow, Muskogee, or other approved instructional locations. Teaching assignments are made based on departmental needs and enrollment and are not guaranteed.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related discipline from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Criminal Justice if the degree is in a related discipline, consistent with regional accreditation faculty credential requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and willingness to teach using the university's learning management system.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Doctorate in Criminal Justice or a closely related discipline.
  • Significant professional experience in one or more areas of criminal justice, including: Law Enforcement Tribal Law Enforcement Federal Law Enforcement Courts Corrections Probation and Parole Emergency Management Homeland Security Cybersecurity Intelligence Analysis Legal Studies
  • Previous college-level teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching online or hybrid courses.
  • Professional certifications relevant to criminal justice.
  • Active involvement in professional criminal justice organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned criminal justice courses using approved course syllabi and learning outcomes.
  • Deliver engaging instruction through classroom, hybrid, and/or online formats utilizing the university's Learning Management System.
  • Maintain current knowledge of criminal justice theory, practice, legislation, and emerging issues affecting the profession.
  • Foster an inclusive and respectful learning environment that promotes student engagement and academic success.
  • Evaluate student learning through assignments, examinations, projects, and other assessment methods.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance, grades, and academic records in accordance with university policies.
  • Submit grades and required reports by established university deadlines.
  • Respond to student communications in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Department Chair regarding course progress and student concerns.
  • Participate in required university training, orientation, and professional development activities.
  • Adhere to all Northeastern State University policies, accreditation standards, FERPA requirements, and academic integrity expectations.
  • Support student retention and success by maintaining appropriate office hours or virtual availability as determined by the department.
