About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and 3 years of experience in a related field; an alternative combination may include a related degree or certification beyond high school/GED, or 5 years of related experience.
• Possess and supply the hand tools necessary to perform the job duties.
• Obtain ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
• Successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical before employment; a current DOT medical card with more than four months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
• Be at least 21 years old due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
• Have a valid state-of-residence driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.
• Hold a Class C driver’s license.
• Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods and perform moderately heavy labor.
• Ability to exert oneself physically for extended periods, including performing repetitive tasks.
• Communicate information succinctly and in an organized manner and engage in effective two-way communication with individuals and groups.
• Determine the type of tools and equipment needed.
• Accurately judge relative distance and proximity.
• Use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Understand the implications of new information for current and future problem-solving and decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light-, medium-, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
• Perform minor adjustments and repairs on truck systems and equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling, starting and charging, engine electronic, steering, engine, transmission, clutch, and differential systems.
• Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck systems and equipment, including air conditioning and the systems listed above.
• Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
• Road-test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and verify proper operation.
• Identify problems, assess the accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.
• Manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
• Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, including safety checks and daily pre- and post-trip inspections.
• Work with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
• Manage concurrent assignments and prioritize work activities and time effectively.
• Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
• Document work performed, parts used, and findings on repair orders in accordance with company standards, including uploading photographs using a company-issued iOS device and the TRAIT application.
• Complete DOT forms and other required documentation accurately and promptly.
• Manage the daily schedule and work with a high degree of independence.
• Maintain productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
• Obtain repair parts from approved local and national vendors as needed.
• Communicate with management and support teams by email or phone to obtain repair estimate approvals, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss repair order findings.
• Perform work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies and applicable OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
