About The Position
This is a temporary, part-time position at the Mount View Youth Services Center in Lakewood, CO. The Division of Youth Services (DYS) provides a continuum of residential and non-residential services for youth aged 10-21, including juvenile detention, commitment, and parole. DYS operates fifteen secure facilities and contracts with private providers. The Division also oversees the Colorado Youth Detention Continuum for pre-adjudicated youth and administers juvenile parole services. The Substitute Teacher will work with State Teacher I's and the Principal to support classrooms needing additional assistance, which may include covering classes, assisting students with guided or computer-based work, and supporting students in special education as a paraprofessional. The role also involves informing the principal of testing commitments, maintaining a secure testing environment, proctoring state-mandated tests (MAP, GED), creating and communicating a testing schedule, monitoring tests and information, downloading reports for various meetings and requests, and entering testing data into spreadsheets and forms. The position requires following safety procedures and policies in a trauma-informed setting, assisting with oral testing as needed, and collecting and reporting educational data for MTSS, MDT, and treatment teams.
Requirements
- Associate's degree from an accredited institution in a field of study related to the work assignment.
- Be a minimum of 21 years of age.
- No felony convictions or history of domestic violence.
- Full background check and reference check required.
- Must complete the official State of Colorado online application.
- Must specifically document work experience and qualifications in the application form.
- Must meet the minimum qualifications to continue in the selection process.

Responsibilities
- Works with State Teacher I’s and the Principal to determine what classrooms need additional support based on specific lesson plans.
- Covers classes/substitutes when needed.
- Sits with students to help with guided class work or computer based work.
- Supports students in special education in a paraprofessional role as needed.
- Informs the principal of testing commitments.
- Maintains a secure test environment and proctors MAP test, state mandated tests, and GED tests for identified students.
- Creates and maintains a testing schedule that is communicated to all parties.
- Monitors tests, testing information, and results.
- Downloads reports from tests and various databases to include in assessment reports, for MDT and IEP meetings, and as requested by the school principal.
- Enters testing data into spreadsheets, forms, and tools to be used by multiple stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Works with teachers and staff to create a safe testing environment.
- Assists with giving tests orally as needed.
- Follows up on monthly, quarterly, and annual educational data collection required.
- Collects information for MTSS, MDT, and other meetings to include treatment teams.
- Assists in treatment team data and information sharing.
- Updates and sends monthly data sheets and MTSS information to principal and DYS Education Director via email attachments.
- Maintains organized spreadsheets and documentation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Classroom supervision in absence of teacher.
- Troubleshoots issues with MAP test.
- Determines when MTSS data is needed for reports.
- Determines what information reports are requesting.
- Determines the level of support students may need.
- Informs the principal of testing commitments.
