The Substitute Teacher is a key member of the classroom team, helping provide quality education for children and their families. The primary responsibility is to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Substitute Teachers plan engaging activities that support children's development, build relationships that promote growth, communicate with staff and families, and maintain consistent routines during the regular teacher's absence. This is an on-call role. Substitute Teachers are contacted as needed and must be available to work on varying days. Assignments may last from one day to a week or longer. Once an assignment is accepted, the substitute is expected to attend. Substitutes must work at least one shift every 45 days. The role pays $16.00 per hour and offers schedule flexibility. Starting as a substitute may open opportunities for other positions, such as Classroom Aide, which include a pay raise and enrollment in a CDA program paid for by UCA.
