Foreign Language Medical Interpreter - Spanish

About The Position
Northside Hospital is seeking a Spanish medical interpreter to support limited English proficient (LEP) patients and families whose primary language is not English. The interpreter provides consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation related to medical care, as well as sight translation of relevant materials during interpretation encounters to improve understanding of procedures, treatment, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care. The role also includes translating assigned hospital documents, such as medical record forms and patient education materials, from English into the target language.
Requirements
- High school diploma, equivalent education (GED), or post-secondary education.
- One year of interpreting experience, including six months of medical interpreting experience.
- Certificate of completion from a recognized Medical Interpreter Training Program confirming at least 40 hours of medical interpreter training, or accepted CMI certification through NBCMI or certification through CCHI.
- Pass the Northside Hospital Interpreter Skills Test (IST), demonstrating the advanced skills necessary for medical interpretation.
Responsibilities
- Provide consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation for LEP patients and families in matters related to medical care.
- Sight-translate relevant materials during interpretation encounters to help patients and families understand medical procedures, treatment, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care.
- Translate assigned hospital documents, including medical record forms and patient education materials, from English into the target language.
