About The Position

The Dean of Students will assist in providing a safe and effective school environment by providing preventative and disciplinary services for students, supervising student activities, scheduling school events and supporting the staff of the school. This role involves a variety of responsibilities including school/staff/principal support, leadership, and supervision. The Dean will work to develop programs that promote a positive environment, assist students with behavior plans, coordinate schedules for events and drills, and manage budgets for activities. They will also serve as a liaison between staff, the principal, and the community, and ensure adherence to all relevant policies and regulations.

  • Provide community leadership in developing interscholastic activities and character-building programs.
  • Be available for associated student body meetings and clubs/organization meetings.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students, parents, fans and community members.
  • Maintain professionalism with parents and the community at all times.
  • Require advisors to govern themselves rigorously in accordance with the Arizona educator code of ethics and as positive role models for students.
  • Require advisors to master and demonstrate principles of excellence in coaching, advising and providing positive role models to students.
  • Serve as liaison between staff members of the athletic and activities departments, principal of the school and the community.
  • Work in cooperation with the superintendent, principal, and student council on athletic events and high school activities.

Responsibilities

  • Attend meetings of the Board as directed by building principal.
  • Assist in home/school/community relations by communicating with parents and the community regarding school/student concerns.
  • Communicate regularly with building principal, staff, and students.
  • Attend to discipline of students as directed by principal.
  • Develop programs within the school to assist in prevention of discipline occurrences and promotion of a positive environment.
  • Support the principal by assisting with scheduling, student supervision, staff support and facilities management.
  • Coordinate with playground supervisors to ensure a safe environment.
  • Partner with Alternative Education staff to maintain progress of students placed or transitioning to Alternative Education.
  • Assist students with positive behavior plans that create student success for classroom behavior, attendance and performance.
  • Develop building schedules as needed for special events and oversee the duty schedule for both the regular education school days as well as other events.
  • Coordinate the calendar of safety drills with building and the high school.
  • Coordinate the calendar of facilities use for the gym with community requests and the high school admin staff.
  • Attend state/conference meetings and relevant professional meetings.
  • Attend meetings concerning district activities (including community groups such as Booster Club), prioritized by the school principal.
  • Prepare and monitor an annual budget for activities and programs.
  • Be responsible for all accident and injury reports and see that they are properly completed and submitted through the proper channels.
  • Coordinate the use of all facilities and events in cooperation with district personnel.
  • Comply with all Board policies, administrative regulations and District procedures, as well as all state, federal and local laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.
