About The Position

Requirements

• A minimum of three years of relevant fire service or emergency service industry experience such as a fire officer, fire investigator, training officer, or fire prevention position
• Must be an instructor within a training program for a minimum of five years
• Must have completed Fire Instructor II course and been promoted to Fire Instructor II with the MFA or a minimum of three years of equivalent experience of instructional curriculum development and course delivery

• Thorough knowledge of the Multi-Agency Public Safety and Fire Investigation programs
• Completed the MFA Advanced Fire Investigator Training Program or Certified as a Massachusetts Fire Investigator or Current Fire Investigator I
• Fire Investigator Technician certification (IAAI-FIT)
• Familiar with the various associated NFPA codes and standards associated with Fire Investigation including but not limited to 921 and 1033
• Demonstrated record of working with the Massachusetts Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit (FEIU)
• Successfully completed Active Attack Integrated Response (AAIR) Train-the-Trainer 5-day program or willing to become an ALERRT Certified Instructor

Responsibilities

• Providing supervision of multiple classes at all MFA campuses and throughout the Commonwealth
• Reviewing and summarizing student evaluations
• Conducting program review for Multi-Agency Public Safety program area and becoming involved in re-development of existing programs and development of new programs
• Preparing new equipment and/or replacement equipment lists annually and submitting to Program Coordinator
• Working closely with Support branch of DFS to ensure proper equipment and media are delivered to training sites
• Developing new instructors through coaching, mentoring, teaching, and guiding
• Observing instructors and providing guidance in program delivery
• Actively participating in coordinator meetings
• Researching, evaluating, and preparing recommendations on curricula, instructional methods, and materials for the program
• Developing tests, questionnaires, and procedures to measure effectiveness of curriculum and to determine if program objectives are met
• Recommending purchase of instructional materials, supplies, equipment, and visual aids to meet the needs of the program
• Working with staff in assessment, curriculum development, management of student behavior, and use of materials and equipment
• Observing, evaluating, and recommending changes in work of instructional staff to strengthen teaching skills in classroom
• Planning, conducting, and evaluating training programs and other learning opportunities for instructors to study new classroom procedures, instructional materials, and teaching aids
• Reviewing and grading written test scores and skill sheets and counseling students when necessary
• Preparing subjective evaluations on students for outstanding performance and non-acceptable performance and counseling the student and notifying the Chief of the Department
• May be assigned additional projects by MFA management
• Facilitating NFA courses related to program division as needed to audit for internal instruction of state-sponsored deliveries
• Actively participating in simulation (SIM) software trainings
• Actively participating in curriculum development and virtual delivery platform trainings
• Creating simulations for use in training programs
• Assisting the Coordinator in reviewing training applications submitted for credential credit as needed
