About The Position

The Nursing Supervisor provides supervision and oversight of Registered Nurses and Direct Support Professionals across assigned shifts, work assignments, and performance evaluations, and makes recommendations regarding hiring, termination, and discipline. The role collaborates with nursing, therapy, medical, and administrative staff; provides clinical oversight of Direct Support Professionals through training; and completes resident reports, assessments, and evaluations. The supervisor also delivers direct resident care and maintains required shift coverage to ensure residents' health, safety, and care needs are met. The position provides or evaluates direct nursing care; develops, implements, and/or reviews nursing care plans; and provides health care instruction and guidance to individuals, families, community groups, and/or nursing home facilities. It maintains effective working relationships with other treatment-team members, prepares and submits records, reports, evaluations, and forms, and participates in and makes recommendations regarding quality assurance activities. Eligible new hires may receive a $10,000 recruitment incentive, paid in quarterly installments over the first year of employment, beginning after the first quarter. Recipients must commit to two consecutive years of employment with DHSS and must be new employees to the State of Delaware. Current DHSS employees may be eligible for a $1,000 referral bonus for referring a qualifying new hire; referral bonuses are paid in quarterly installments over the referred employee's first year. The incentive program may be terminated by the State at any time.

Requirements

  • Meet one of the following experience and education combinations: at least three years of experience as a Registered Nurse; a bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing and at least two years of experience as a Registered Nurse; or a master's degree or higher in Nursing and at least one year of experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Possess a Delaware Registered Nurse license or a multistate compact license.
  • Have knowledge of staff supervision acquired through coursework, academic training, employer-provided training, or experience as a lead worker overseeing others; or experience supervising staff, including planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating work; or experience supervising subordinate supervisors overseeing professional, technical, and clerical employees.
  • Be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Complete a satisfactory criminal background check, pre-employment drug testing, and a two-step TB/PPD test administered on the first day at the facility.
