About The Position

The Adjunct Instructor, Political Science is hired for one semester to teach one or more qualified courses. The instructor provides quality instruction, works with full-time faculty to assess students, and follows course guidelines. Teaching is face to face during daytime hours, with no online instruction. Willingness to teach at other campus sites is required; instructors may submit preferences for locations and teaching loads. The position is subject to the terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract. The instructor reports to the appropriate Instructional Coordinator and/or Department Chair. The role is part time in the Social & Behavioral Sciences department within Academic Affairs. The hiring rate per contact hour for Fall 2026 to Summer 2027 is $1,161 for candidates with a bachelor’s or master’s degree and $1,220 for candidates with a Ph.D., Ed.D., or J.D. Requirements

  • Master’s degree.
  • 18 hours of graduate credit in Political Science.
  • Expertise in appropriate technologies for instruction.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the college’s core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation, and quality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence and emotional intelligence.
  • At least two years of teaching experience at the college level.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of Political Science classes.
  • Participate in annual student and chair/coordinator evaluations.
  • Comply with departmental curriculum, grading standards, attendance policies, textbook choices, assessments, and other established processes.
  • Attend classes regularly; return college reports, credentials, and other requested documentation in a timely manner; and communicate effectively with appropriate staff and the chair.
  • Comply with legal and ethical obligations, including FERPA, ADA, and other regulatory legislation, and communicate discrepancies to appropriate officials.
  • Commit to furthering the college’s mission, goals, and core values.
  • Meet other contractual obligations specified in the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract.
