About The Position

Newport Mental Health (NMH) is a progressive organization that utilizes a state-of-the-art person-centered recovery approach to assist individuals in recovering from mental illness and substance use disorders. NMH provides trauma-informed, evidence-based services to children, adolescents, families, and adults, encompassing outreach, specialized programs, mental health services, school-based therapy, substance use therapy, community-based therapy, and outpatient clinic services.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, family therapy, or a related clinical field required.
  • Current licensure or license eligibility in Rhode Island required (LMHC-A, LMHC, LCSW, LICSW, RN, or equivalent), consistent with state requirements.
  • Licensed at the independent practice level (LICSW or equivalent) preferred; LCSW, LMHC, and other qualified licensure levels will be considered.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant clinical experience in behavioral health, counseling, nursing, or human services.
  • Experience providing individual, family, and group-based assessment and treatment services to children and families.
  • Demonstrated experience in assessment, diagnosis, crisis intervention, and child and family therapy.
  • Credentialed or eligible to provide diagnostic and treatment services to children and families under appropriate supervision, as required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide home-based assessment, diagnosis, and treatment to children and families.
  • Deliver comprehensive mental health services to children, parents, and families across home, school, and community settings.
  • Conduct evaluations and assist in formulating recovery goals and treatment strategies for children and families.
  • Provide a range of therapeutic interventions including child therapy, parent guidance, family therapy, crisis response, school consultation, case management, and advocacy.
  • Coordinate services and collaborate with internal and external providers to support implementation of recovery plans.
  • Ensure services align with client needs, program expectations, and organizational standards for care delivery.
  • Serve as a liaison with outside agencies, referral sources, and community partners.
  • Apply knowledge of local resources, service systems, and referral pathways to support coordinated, effective care.
  • Respond to crises and demonstrate strong assessment, intervention, and clinical decision-making skills in high-acuity situations.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to support effective service delivery and client outcomes.
  • Interface with medication prescribers, families, and other care providers as appropriate.
  • Participate in supervision, case presentations, and team discussions.
  • Contribute to program initiatives, community-based efforts, and activities that support diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Serve as an informal clinical and operational resource to colleagues on clinical decision-making, documentation, and service delivery.
  • Provide day-to-day coaching and guidance to peers on engagement strategies, complex cases, and crisis management.
  • Model best practices in assessment, treatment planning, and family-centered care.
  • Support newer or less experienced staff in navigating workflows, expectations, systems, and program requirements.
  • Promote consistency in documentation and adherence to clinical, program, and regulatory standards.
  • Reinforce accountability and consistency in team practices to support a positive and effective work environment.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment through problem-solving, knowledge-sharing, and professional support.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Meet all documentation expectations and deadlines.
  • Support peers in understanding documentation standards and workflows.
  • Maintain current licensure and credentialing requirements in accordance with state regulations and organizational standards.
