About The Position
The Bilingual (Spanish) Family Navigator supports parents and children, with the goal of preventing out-of-home placement or disruption of a current placement. Depending on the assigned role, the Navigator uses the Strengthening Families Protective Factors Framework and evidence-based practices to help families access resources that support health, stability, and safety. The position implements the Parents as Teachers (PAT) model and Foundational Curriculum, focusing on parent-child interactions, development-centered parenting, and family well-being. The Navigator partners with families through personal visits, group meetings or activities, screenings, and connections to community resources, using inclusive and equitable practices. Spanish language skills support clear communication with staff, clients, and community members as needed; formal translation or interpretation is not part of the role. The Navigator contacts and enrolls families, helps them develop individualized goals or plans, completes assessments and screenings, maintains program files and data, and provides referrals and support. The role includes regular family contact, case management, collaboration with agencies, planning and facilitating curriculum-based activities and parenting classes, and outreach. Employees must complete trainings or certifications required for their assigned program and follow applicable fidelity standards, grant requirements, and program guidelines. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and is based in Montrose as indicated in the job title.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years of previous supervised work experience with young children and/or parents.
- Valid Colorado driver’s license.
- Complete certifications or training required for the assigned program or role, as applicable.
- Ability to follow program fidelity standards, grant requirements, and program guidelines.
- Bilingual Spanish language skills to support communication with staff, clients, and community members.
Nice To Haves
- CPR certificate and First Aid certificate.
- Child Passenger Safety Technician Certificate.
Responsibilities
- Complete training and certifications required for the assigned Hilltop program, curriculum, or practice, and perform duties according to fidelity standards, grant requirements, and program guidelines.
- Make initial contact with families to explain available services and provide referrals or concrete support through individual meetings, home visits, or phone contact.
- Create a working file for enrolled families, maintain necessary documentation, and help families develop individualized goals or plans.
- Administer required family assessments and screenings.
- Enter and maintain program data as required.
- Share relevant lived experience by modeling effective interactions and behaviors, advocating for and supporting families, mentoring, and helping build natural supports.
- Refer families to external services and resources when their needs are outside the Navigator’s professional training.
- Make at least two contacts per month with families on the caseload, maintain accurate and timely contact notes, and enter data in program databases in accordance with program regulations.
- Collaborate with relevant agencies to help participants meet their goals.
- Plan, advertise, and implement lessons, activities, and parenting classes based on program curriculum requirements.
- Facilitate developmental, health, vision, and hearing screenings and complete related documentation and processes as needed.
- Maintain a caseload deemed appropriate by the supervisor and manage time effectively.
- Keep current knowledge of internal and external programs and community resources available for participant referrals.
- Participate in outreach and participant events and collaborate with relevant agencies.
- Use Spanish language skills to support clear and effective communication with staff, clients, and community members as needed; the role does not include formal translation or interpretation.
