About The Position

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Males must be registered for Selective Service.
• At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-05 level or equivalent is required; examples include emergency-response knowledge, EMD procedures, communications operations and equipment, office automation software, and basic computer operations.
• Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable federal time-in-grade requirements; one year at GS-05 is required for GS-06 consideration when TIG applies.
• Must obtain and maintain an appropriate security clearance.
• Must pass initial and periodic short-notice drug testing.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
• Must obtain and maintain required certifications, including International Fire Service Accreditation Congress Telecommunicator Level I and II, EMD and EMD-Q (initial and follow-on), CPR, and HAZMAT Awareness certifications, as applicable.
• Must possess and maintain valid civilian and government driver’s licenses.
• Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with a calm, stable demeanor during emergencies.
• Must be able to assess emergency information and quickly determine an appropriate dispatch response.
• Must be able to work independently without immediate supervision.
• Must be resourceful and alert, and maintain good working relationships and a consistently courteous attitude.
• Must be able to transport 30–35 pounds of books and equipment during relocation.
• Must be able to perform critical services regardless of weather conditions or base closure and report at regularly scheduled times.
• May be required to travel for temporary-duty training.
• Must comply with the position’s mission-essential and key-position requirements; the position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization and the employee cannot become a member of the Ready Reserve.

Responsibilities

• Answer emergency E-911 calls and dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment for police, fire, and medical emergencies.
• Perform Emergency Medical Dispatch services, including instructing callers on appropriate medical aid procedures.
• Maintain maps, checklists, charts, and automated programs.
• Operate and maintain telephones, automated data-processing equipment, printers, recorders, facsimile equipment, and other dispatch-center devices.
• Prepare and maintain reports and records relating to emergency responses.
• Participate in exercises by relaying accurate information.
• Maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and on- and off-base agencies.
• Participate in recurrent proficiency training and maintain required certifications.
• Report for duty during base closures or delayed reporting when required, and remain on duty during emergencies until properly relieved or the emergency is terminated.
• Relocate to an alternate FACC if required, transporting books and equipment.
