About The Position

Requirements

• Demonstrated experience with air sampling, such as personal and area sampling for gases, vapors, or particulates.
• Demonstrated experience with noise monitoring, ventilation assessment, or similar industrial hygiene evaluations.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret exposure limits such as OSHA PELs, NIOSH RELs, or ACGIH TLVs.
• Valid and unrestricted driver's license.
• Ability to learn and grow and to take action to meet the needs of others.
• Ability to travel between worksites and safely navigate industrial environments, including stairs, catwalks, ladders, and uneven terrain; ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
• For CISHI1 qualification, meet at least one of the following: four years of paid technician or para-professional experience in government, military, public health, or a related safety and health field; two years of full-time professional experience as an employer’s safety director or manager, industrial hygienist, or safety and health specialist; or a bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or a similar field plus one year of occupational/industrial safety professional experience. The degree must be from a regionally accredited college or university, and an unofficial transcript must be attached.
• For CISHI2 qualification, meet at least one of the following: two years as a DOSH Compliance Industrial Safety and Health Investigator (CISHI) or equivalent journey-level experience with Federal OSHA or another state plan; three years of full-time professional experience as an employer’s safety director or manager, industrial hygienist, or safety and health specialist; five years of full-time journey-level occupational/industrial safety experience in government, military, public health, or a related safety and health field; or a bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or a similar field plus four years of occupational/industrial safety professional experience. The degree must be from a regionally accredited college or university, and an unofficial transcript must be attached.
• For CISHI3 qualification, meet at least one of the following: five years as a DOSH CISHI or equivalent journey-level experience with Federal OSHA or another state plan; Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification; five years of full-time professional experience as an employer’s safety director or manager, industrial hygienist, or safety and health specialist; seven years of full-time journey-level occupational/industrial safety experience in government, military, public health, or a related safety and health field; or a Bachelor of Science degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, or a similar field plus five years of occupational/industrial safety professional experience. The degree must be from a regionally accredited university, and an unofficial transcript must be attached.
• For positions requiring travel, have insurance when driving a privately owned vehicle on state business.
• Provide a cover letter describing specific qualifications, a current resume, and at least three professional references with current telephone numbers.
• Selected candidate must provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

• Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification.
• Demonstrated leadership in accident investigations, inspections, and regulatory enforcement.
• Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills when working with employers, unions, and legal teams.
• Bilingual fluency; bilingual ability is not required, and employees with bilingual responsibilities receive additional pay after passing an assessment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct industrial hygiene compliance inspections and exposure assessments at manufacturing, food processing, construction, public-sector, and other worksites.
• Identify and evaluate worker exposure to chemicals, airborne contaminants, noise, and other physical agents.
• Conduct personal and area air sampling and noise monitoring using standard industrial hygiene equipment and methods.
• Interpret sampling results against established exposure limits to assess risk and compliance.
• Investigate workplace incidents involving potential chemical or physical overexposures, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend effective controls.
• Prepare detailed, legally defensible industrial hygiene reports documenting sampling methods, data interpretation, and regulatory basis for findings.
• Ensure compliance with WISHA occupational health standards and verify that identified hazards have been corrected.
• Provide employers and employees with practical guidance on identifying exposure risks and reducing or eliminating them.
• Work with technical experts and legal teams on complex cases and provide testimony when needed.
• Support and mentor newer staff in industrial hygiene fieldwork, sampling, and exposure assessment.
• Travel between worksites and operate a state-issued, motor pool, or appropriate personally owned vehicle to perform assigned duties.
• Complete structured training and develop technical proficiency in industrial hygiene investigation and compliance work.
