About The Position

The Lead Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) – Clinical Operations serves as the clinical leader for all Medical Assistants across the organization. This position is responsible for ensuring excellence in clinical operations through leadership, education, quality assurance, process improvement, workforce development, and standardization of clinical practices. This leader partners closely with providers, Practice Administrators, Human Resources, Quality, Compliance, Revenue Cycle, and Executive Leadership to ensure every clinic consistently delivers safe, efficient, patient-centered care. The Lead LVN is responsible for developing clinical talent, establishing best practices, monitoring quality metrics, leading clinical training initiatives, and supporting the organization's continued growth through scalable clinical workflows. This role combines leadership, education, quality management, operational strategy, and direct clinical oversight. The ideal candidate is an experienced nurse leader with exceptional organizational skills, strong clinical judgment, outstanding communication abilities, and a passion for developing high-performing clinical teams. The Lead LVN exists to ensure every Medical Assistant throughout the organization practices at the same high clinical standard regardless of clinic location or specialty. The Lead LVN is expected to continuously improve patient care, employee competency, provider satisfaction, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Current Texas LVN License in good standing
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Minimum five years clinical experience
  • Minimum three years leadership experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supervising Medical Assistants/LVNs
  • Multi-specialty clinic experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of quality improvement
  • Experience with policy development
  • Lean Healthcare or Six Sigma experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the clinical leader for all Medical Assistants across the organization.
  • Provide day-to-day clinical guidance and support.
  • Develop accountability within MA teams.

  • Ensure consistency in rooming procedures, medication administration, documentation, specimen handling, clinical protocols, standing orders, equipment usage, infection prevention, and patient education.

  • Recommend operational improvements.
  • Develop clinical checklists.
  • Assist with clinic openings.
  • Support provider onboarding.
  • Evaluate staffing models.
  • Develop scalable clinical processes as the organization grows.
  • Design and oversee the organization's MA onboarding program.
  • Develop competency checklists.
  • Create standardized training materials.
  • Develop annual competency assessments.
  • Lead skills validation.
  • Conduct classroom instruction.
  • Perform clinical demonstrations.
  • Evaluate new hire competency.
  • Develop continuing education programs.

  • Mentor Float Medical Assistants.

  • Develop the MA Quality Assurance Program.
  • Perform routine clinical audits including vital signs accuracy, medication administration, injection technique, documentation quality, clinical documentation completeness, specimen collection, laboratory quality control, standing order compliance, EMR accuracy, and clinical safety practices.
  • Perform random competency observations.
  • Trend deficiencies.
  • Develop corrective action plans.
  • Monitor quality metrics.
  • Present quality reports to leadership.
  • Implement improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA, CDC Guidelines, Texas Nursing Practice Act, TMB requirements, Infection Prevention Standards, Vaccine Management, Medication Storage, and Emergency Preparedness.
  • Conduct mock inspections.
  • Prepare clinics for regulatory surveys.
  • Monitor crash cart readiness.
  • Monitor medication expiration.
  • Monitor refrigerator logs.
  • Monitor controlled medication documentation.
  • Partner with executive leadership to develop long-term clinical strategies.
  • Participate in clinic expansion planning, new service implementation, staffing projections, clinical equipment evaluations, technology implementation, workflow redesign, and provider growth planning.
  • Evaluate future staffing needs.
  • Assist with organizational scaling.
  • Recommend staffing models.
  • Identify workflow bottlenecks.
  • Develop efficiency initiatives.
  • Support mergers or acquisitions if applicable.
  • Partner with providers regarding clinical workflow concerns, Medical Assistant performance, clinical process improvements, procedure preparation, patient flow optimization, clinical documentation support, provider onboarding, and new clinical services.
  • Develop leadership within the MA department.
  • Conduct performance coaching, skills development, clinical education, continuing education, succession planning, and leadership mentoring.
  • Assist HR with interviewing Medical Assistants, clinical skills testing, hiring recommendations, orientation, probation evaluations, retention initiatives, and workforce planning.
  • Responsible for monitoring MA competency completion, clinical documentation quality, patient rooming times, patient satisfaction, clinical error rates, medication administration accuracy, injection competency, quality audit scores, training completion, provider satisfaction, employee retention, clinical productivity, enhanced Vitals compliance, and clinical note accuracy.
